Arun Kalvi Chandran

Lead Developer with 16+ years building and running large cloud systems across automotive, finance, and publishing. I lead technical work, raise reliability, and help teams make sound engineering decisions.

About

I currently lead engineering on Jaguar Land Rover’s Vehicle Health Management platform: cloud migration, diagnostics services on Kubernetes, vehicle connectivity, and the APIs and internal UIs that keep operations running. Before JLR I delivered platforms at NatWest, JP Morgan, Barclays, and Elsevier — financial crime, entitlements, payments tooling, and large-scale content ingestion.

Day to day I care about reliability, performance, observability, and mentoring. I use AI coding agents to move faster, with a human always in the loop for review, security, and standards.

Experience

Lead Developer

Jaguar Land Rover · Gaydon, UK · Jan 2022 – Present

Engineering leadership for Vehicle Health Management: stability, cloud migration, diagnostics, and secure vehicle-to-cloud connectivity.

  • Led work to improve stability, performance, and operational quality across the VHM platform.
  • Migrated major platform components from GCP to AWS with Terraform as part of an organisation-wide cloud strategy.
  • Designed cloud-native diagnostics services on Kubernetes (GKE/EKS) and REST APIs with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Connected vehicles to the cloud with MQTT, mTLS, and Keycloak tokens so only trusted clients can publish or subscribe.
  • Provisioned networking with Terraform (VPC, subnets, routing, security groups) and application services with AWS CDK (S3, SNS, Lambda).
  • Implemented SSO/OAuth with ForgeRock for web APIs and Keycloak for service-to-service auth, plus an in-house fine-grained authorisation layer.
  • Built data pipelines with Airflow, Beam, Dataflow, and BigQuery; React UIs for diagnostics and operational tooling.
  • Raised observability with Datadog dashboards and alerts; led incident investigations and lasting fixes.
  • Mentored engineers and worked with product, architecture, and operations so technical choices serve the business.
  • Used Kiro as an AI coding agent to speed delivery, always with a human review for quality and security.

Lead Developer

NatWest (via Cognizant) · London, UK · Jan 2021 – Dec 2021

  • Designed and built the portal so customer records stayed safe, clean, and regulation-compliant across three brands.
  • Worked with IAM and architecture teams on banking auth, federation, tokens, and group-wide integration standards.
  • React UI from UX designs; Spring Boot APIs on Oracle; Apigee with OAuth in front of banking services.
  • CI/CD with TeamCity and Cloud Foundry; tests with JUnit, Cucumber, Jest, and Cypress; monitoring in Splunk and AppDynamics.

Senior Developer

JP Morgan (via Cognizant) · Bournemouth, UK · Sep 2019 – Dec 2020

  • Built a JIRA-based tool for large project management and leadership reporting.
  • Rolled it out across more than 150 payments-domain projects.
  • Full-stack delivery with Spring Boot and React, automated tests, and Agile delivery with the squad.

Senior Developer

Barclays (via Cognizant) · Manchester, UK · Feb 2018 – Sep 2019

  • Backend APIs for Business Banking Entitlements — performance, reliability, and security of access control.
  • Enabled business directors to create users, assign permissions, and set approval limits.
  • Spring Boot and SQL Server; RAML API specs; JUnit, WireMock, and Cucumber tests; close frontend/backend integration.

Senior Developer

Elsevier (via Cognizant) · London, UK · Feb 2017 – Feb 2018
